May Day Newsletter – LLE
May 16 Fire Smart BC – Workshop / Community Activities / BB Cue
On May 16th at 10 AM you are invited to meet at our Fire Hall (Gate 2)
Staff from Fire Smart BC will provide us all with some recommendations about how we all can contribute to making our own places and those of our neighbours more safe from the dangers of fires.
Over the past few years we have had several fires in and around our community. In two cases, buildings were burned to the ground. With luck, and the rapid response of volunteers, we have avoided a community disaster. We are now approaching the summer dry season again and with that the risk of fires escalates. Please take a couple of hours out of your morning to learn more about what you can do to better protect your buildings/ lot and those of your neighbours.
At this event we will also be briefed on where the new Defribrillator can be found and how to use it.
The days festivities will include various gate volunteer clean up sessions after lunch at your common lot hosted by your gate reps where we will tidy up from the winter debris. The gate 5 group will meet at 2PM at the boat launch. Please bring rakes, pruners etc.
Then join us for an early afternoon happy hour and barbecue of hotdogs at the Maintenance House from 4 – 5 ish. Bring your own refreshments. We will supply hotdogs and the fixins. A great chance to meet your neighbours.
Board members will also be there to answer questions. Hope you can make it. This will be a fun way to kick off another great summer season at LLE. We would appreciate an RSVP so that we know how many will attend the barbecue.
Dealing with the Risk of Slides
You have all received a notice from the Squamish Lillooet Regional District as a follow up the BGC Engineers Report with regard to the risks and mitigation options as it relates to the debris slides coming through our community. The SLRD has also posted new signs warning about the risks associated with these slides.
Cataline Creek Debris-Flow Working Group
The SLRD, working with LLE, has establish a working group made up of all of the parties that have an interest in the Forest Service Road and in particular Cataline Creek. The committee mandate is focused on finding a solution to the slide issues. We will keep you updated on the work of this committee as it proceeds. The BGC report is our web site and also on the SLRD web site.
Catiline Creek Emergency Planning Process
In the past when our community has faced emergencies we have struggled to contact everyone in a timely manner and develop an appropriate community response.
The SLRD has formed an Emergency Planning Committee with LLE. The mandate of this committee is to develop a plan for the community that better helps us to deal with emergencies of any kind that we may encounter. Gate reps have been nominated to sit on this committee. As the committee proceeds we will ensure that you are kept up to date. We are still looking for a rep to this committee from gate 6. If you are interested please send a note to Gary Young via our web site.
